Sewing a Scorpion

My partner in crime had a video game themed costume party to attend last weekend and was considering putting together a costume for Commander Keen. However, after he discovered this would involve wearing a pink shirt, we searched for other options. We settled on an early version of Mortal Kombat’s Scorpion.

It looked simple enough to construct and I ambitiously offered to sew the body piece and face mask from scratch, using some of the techniques I learned from sewing the Gossip Girl ties. It was just meant to be something simple and instantly recognisable for a video game themed costume party. It was not meant to be totally accurate or complete!

Note: Please excuse the substandard quality pictures. I was tired, exhausted and sleep deprived by the time I finished this costume.

Gossip Girl Day

This blog will be primarily photography related, but occasionally I will post up other hobby-related activities that I have been up to, ie. sewing.

Last Sunday, I went over to Skye’s house along with a couple other friends to marathon Gossip Girl episodes and sew some crossover ties (as worn by Blair and Jenny in the series).

Gossip Girl is totally trashy and I’m sure there are many who, understandably, cannot stand it. It is one of several guilty pleasures on Foxtel, there’s something delightfully engrossing about the rich, complicated world Gossip Girl creates and if you don’t take it too seriously, it is very amusing and entertaining!

Above is a group photo of us trying to emulate the Gossip Girl promo shots for laughs :) It was dark by the time we took these so I threw together an uninspiring flash setup and my tripod to take the photos. I wore the huge glasses because I thought they were Nelly Yuki-esque!
