A Battle for the Crown

For this shoot, I wanted to try doing fashion photography, but with an unusual medieval twist. I tried to make it look as “editorial” as possible using poses and lighting appropriate to the theme.
Credits
Models: Christiane Krapf & Natacha Bruder
Makeup and Hair styling: Lily Webb (Beauty Contour)
There may be a few more images from this set posted later this week or next week :)

Sometimes, reading the manual is not enough.

Whilst cleaning out my horifically messy room, I found a Tecre button making machine I purchased over a year ago in a fit of convulsive joy about the prospect of creating 1″ buttons. So I ditched the cleaning and tried to make a button, carefully puzzling over the instructions for several minutes.
I ended up with this:

My partner in crime jumped in to try it out himself and got it working!

Here’s a graphic journey showing how we made a button. I’m hoping it will be helpful to someone else trying to make buttons for the first time too! It is more helpful than the 1 page of bollo… photocopied instructions that came with the machine, chiefly because of the photos of each step!

Sewing a Scorpion
Posted by sab | Filed under Sewing
My partner in crime had a video game themed costume party to attend last weekend and was considering putting together a costume for Commander Keen. However, after he discovered this would involve wearing a pink shirt, we searched for other options. We settled on an early version of Mortal Kombat’s Scorpion.
It looked simple enough to construct and I ambitiously offered to sew the body piece and face mask from scratch, using some of the techniques I learned from sewing the Gossip Girl ties. It was just meant to be something simple and instantly recognisable for a video game themed costume party. It was not meant to be totally accurate or complete!
Note: Please excuse the substandard quality pictures. I was tired, exhausted and sleep deprived by the time I finished this costume.
