Using natural lighting with no light modifiers was incredibly liberating. Skye and I ran about taking pictures of each other, and we did not really have expectations or preconceptions of shots what we wanted, which made the shoot a lot less structured and more fun :) It’s been a long time since I have photographed anything with my DSLR and this was a welcome break to end the photographic drought. Photographing Skye felt reassuringly familiar and being out in the fresh air definitely lifted my mood.

Skye also took some photos of me, but I’m not posting those here.

Sweet morning air

Another collaboration with Skye (The Lost Princess), she has incredibly pretty, delicate-looking, vintage Gunne Sax dresses.

Face the World

I opted for natural lighting so I would not have to find someone to hold a reflector for me. We did this shoot early – mid morning, and you may not believe it but it was shot on this empty block which was right next to a very busy road. A couple of people have asked me about where I did “the country shoot” and I couldn’t figure out which shoot they were talking about until I realised they were talking about these photos!

A handful of ‘behind the scenes’ snaps :)

Skye constructed the flower wreath.

Skye sat on a blanket to avoid soiling the dress.

I had not braided since I was a little girl until this moment.

Natural light was less than optimum, and although I hate using photoshop to fix lighting errors it had to be done. With only one light source (aka. the sun) it would have been better to face a different direction than to be backlit by the sun but on our location there was no other angle we could have taken without including a substantial amount of ugly urban backdrop.

A retro-processed shot that doesn’t fit into the set!

La Vie d’une Poupee

by Sab on December 14, 2009

Part of a series shot with Princess Skye (of The Lost Princess), titled La Vie d’une Poupee, which translates to “The Life of A Doll” in English.

Skye provided her beautiful Lolita-style wardrobe for a set of images we created together over a six-month period.
